All WinTree programmes must be shut down on the server. Don’t forget to shut down the WinTree labelling and scanners for example. |
These installation instructions apply only to the use of the WinTree Updater in a 'peer-to-peer' or 'Client-Server' network.
Contact the TSD service department if WinTree is being used on a Terminal server or if a server with a failover is being used.
Downloading and installing the most recent patches must be done on the server on which Windows has been started up by an administrator with all administrator privileges. The downloading and installing of the most recent patches always consists of two steps – downloading the files and installing these files. These two steps can be performed directly after one another, but they can also take place with a period in between.
There are two ways of downloading the most recent patch. The first is via the Windows Start button --> Programmes --> WinTree Software --> WinTree AutoUpdate. The second is via one of the WinTree programmes. To do this, open the menu Help --> Check for updates.
Depending on the Windows version you are using, a security warning may appear. Click on [Continue] in this window. Whichever method you choose, the following window will be opened.
Via internet on the TSD server, WinTree will immediately start checking to see if a new patch is available. If for some reason there is no internet connection, a message will appear in the window informing you that there is no connection. The opened window can then be closed via the [Close] button. Restore the internet connection and re-start the WinTree Updater.
As soon as a new patch has been found, it can be downloaded. To do this, click on [Download]. In the opened window, you can specify where you want the file to be stored. By default, the Windows download location will be used, but you can modify this location if you wish. Now click on [Save]. Even though the patch will be installed directly, it is still necessary to first save the file.
After the file has been saved, the patch can be installed or the window can be closed via the [Close] button, so that the installation can be performed later.

All WinTree programms must be closed on the server. Don't forget WinTree Labeling and the scanners. |
Before installing a patch, all WinTree users must have logged off from WinTree. It is also important that nobody tries to open WinTree during the installation process. We therefore advise you to perform the installation of the patch during the lunch break or – even better – after office hours. But don’t forget to notify the WinTree users who can work on the server by dialling in.
If a WinTree programme is still active, this will be mentioned via a pop-up window. Leave the pop-up window open and close the opened WinTree programme via the little cross in the top right corner. Now click on [OK] in the pop-up window and the installation will be started up.
The installation of the patch is done via a wizard. All you need to do is click twice on [Next>], and then on [Finish]. Do not modify any settings in the wizard.

During the installation, the normal WinTree programmes must not be started up. |
Once the patch has been installed, this will be announced via a message in the window. Now click on [OK] and the patch is now installed. A message will automatically be sent informing TSD that the patch has been installed. With this information, TSD always has a record of which version and patch is being used. In the message to TSD, only the number of the security module, the installation date and the patch number are sent. No company-sensitive information will be sent.
If you choose not to install the patch immediately after you have downloaded it, the installation can always be manually initiated. You can do this by double-clicking on the saved patch. For this reason, we advise you to save the patch to your desktop. You can then find the patch very easily. After double-clicking on the patch, the installation wizard will be started and the further completion occurs exactly as described above. After the patch has been installed, you can delete the patch file that you downloaded.
If for any reason a problem occurs while you are installing the patch, a pop-up window will always be displayed asking if you wish to perform a "Rollback". The message in the window states: ‘Do you want to undo the installation?’. ALWAYS click on [YES] here. This will restore all the files that were already installed. Now you can continue to work in WinTree with the version that was running before the installation of the patch.
If an error message appears during the installation of the patch, always contact the TSD service department.
After installing a patch, it may be necessary to convert the company database. To start the conversion process, start WinTree. Open all company databases once to convert them. This is required, amongst other things, to make it possible to view the history of previous years. After all the files have been converted, WinTree can be used again.

Not every installation of a patch will lead to a conversion. If no conversion is started, you can start working in WinTree on the workstations immediately. |
